Steve provides guidance and support to all employees regarding safety issues and concerns for Bouma’s operations. He maintains OSHA programs and safety records while ensuring compliance and mandated training are implemented accordingly. He coordinates accident prevention programs, plans, and conducts safety training programs involving worksite safety practices and correct handling techniques for building materials, equipment and all other supplies. He visits sites regularly, producing reports and recommendations based on inspection findings.

Steve began his construction career as an ironworker, working in the industry for over 22 years. He spent three years as a Michigan OSHA construction health and safety compliance officer before becoming the safety manager for several construction companies. He has over 16 years of experience as a Safety Director/Manager. Currently, Steve has 35 safety training certificates ranging from 8 to 40-hour courses in health and safety from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration, US Department of Labor, Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Board Certified Safety Professionals, United States Army Core Engineers, and Department of Energy. He holds United States Patent D653,768 S for a construction site mock-up he uses for training purposes. The mock-up building was designed to provide an advanced, hands-on training tool to demonstrate simulations and scenarios of various jobsite hazards for visual learners.
